How to Amplify your Podcast’s Audience on Clubhouse

Clubhouse is a new invite-only, iOS-only, audio-only social media channel which still is in beta, and yet is definitely on fire. The experience on Clubhouse is like attending a conference and immediately having the ability to pop inside any room in which panelists are on stage. Plus, if you are listening to something that is intriguing and you wish to contribute, it’s possible to raise your hand and get called up. If it has content that isn’t that interesting, it’s possible to quietly leave without that awkwardness of walking through a crowd.

Over the last month, the chatter about Clubhouse has been growing louder, and the same question keeps popping up– “How can I use Clubhouse to leverage my podcast?” Below I list my 3 suggestions:

Get on other podcasts and find new guests.

It is about a true connection. When you are sending out cold emails or cold DM’s to potential guests, you do not really have that connection yet and it is simple for somebody to ignore the message. Because Clubhouse is about this interaction, if you’re in those rooms and raise your hand and talk and you build a relationship there, you suddenly appear to be more of a person and less like a text. Therefore, it’s possible to build more meaningful connections this way, and you may have someone be a guest on your show after that. So perhaps you are inside a room and talk and you hit it off and say, ‘I was inside your Clubhouse room. I have a show. I’d really like if you could come over and join. I really loved what you spoke about.’ I am really thrilled about because it makes our world much smaller and will make new guests more attainable.

Follow-up on podcast episodes.

Let us say you have published an episode with a fantastic guest, and you have all this incredible content, yet your listeners have some questions about it. It’s possible to follow-up to that show in Clubhouse. It’s a unique chance to really connect with your fan base, and suddenly, you are building your raving superfan base. In addition, folks who are not listening to your show now may stumble inside those rooms, become interested in your content, and go download your show.

Live interactive episodes that are recorded on Clubhouse.

If you really have the desire to create a different type of episode, perhaps an Ask Me Anything, you’ll have the chance to do this on Clubhouse. Be certain to schedule a room and tell the audience that you will be recording — and they’ll have an opportunity to be on one of your episodes! Be careful though, once you hit the record button on your iPhone, the app shouts at you in a scary background, ‘Heads up — Sharing your recordings without a speakers’ permission will violate our Community Guidelines and result in your suspension. Thanks!’ Therefore, be certain it is explicit to every speaker that it’s a recording! However, if you make it crystal clear and involve your fans, you’ll have a unique, fun podcast episode.

With that being said, Clubhouse is a powerful tool that helps you promote your show, as well as build your audience.
